The American dream. The promise that any nobody can become somebody. Aside from being the land of the free, America is also the land of opportunity. Forgive me for putting a little political bias in my gallery but, to me, Obama is the embodiment of the American Dream. From a little known senator from Chicago who grew up in Hawaii to a presidential prospect. The amount of success he has had is amazing. Even his campaign slogan, "yes we can!" resonates with the ideals of the American dream.

However, Gatsby's character was dreamlike in itself in that his identity was completely self-made. He has achieved whatever he wanted to achieve but Daisy's love eluded him.
